Recently bought a AMD Athlon XP 2500+ Barton and a ASUS A7V8X-X, REV 1.xx
When put together the system kept on locking up at random intervals
Tried taking the RAM out one by one and seeing if one was faulty (Crucial 2700), drivers, and PCI cards different driver combinations even a clean install. Which was locking?.
Stuck my old Athlon T Bird in and it never locked once..
That chip was sent back as I thought it was faulty.

Got a replacement yesterday and I have had it lockup a couple of times, this is really getting on my nerves now and I’m wondering if there is a fault with the Motherboard.

Running the latest BIOS and drivers.
Any ideas on what’s causing this problem?

What heatsink are you using, it's o so important in this day in age, especially with the high speeds and high temperatures that CPU's produce today

i'm using the retail copper HSF
Idle temps are 39-40 load 45-49

Wondering if the ram is just not coping with the speed

I have underclocked it to 1433 and i have had no lockups at all.
this is doing my head in :)

What RAM timings are you using?

It's possible that your RAM doesn't like the timings you've set them to, change them to their rated settings, and then try running it again, with PC2700, it should be able to cope with a barton at stock speed. as they're both 166 (333)Mhz FSB :)
