Hello! This is my first mod log on Bit-tech. I've done a few other mods and they've been gradually getting better each try so, hopefully this continues the trend and ends up being my best one yet I've got a Phanteks Eclipse P400 I want to make into a Stranger Things themed PC. This will be my very first go at custom water cooling and I've already ordered up everything I'm going to need for the loop so hopefully I got it all right! I'm reusing most parts from my current daily driver PC but I was sponsored by V1tech, he gave me some cable extensions. Thanks man! Parts list: Phanteks eclipse P400 Intel I7-7700k Asus Z170-A motherboard G.Skill Trident Z 16gb RAM GTX 1080 founders edition GPU EVGA Supernova 650w PSU 1TB 2.5" SSD 1TB 2.5" HDD Various watercooling components from a few different vendors (mostly EKWB) Various case fans Black cable extensions by V1tech https://www.v1tech.com/ref/dietecmods/ Can't wait to see what I can do with this!
I disassembled the case as much as I could with just a screwdriver and this is what I was left with. I'm not sure what colors I want the project to be yet, but I do know I want to add something cool to the PSU shroud. I cut out a bit so I can add a light up decal to show off through the glass window. I'll just put the "Stranger Things" logo here.
Looking good! Just got to paint it. I've also decided to paint my motherboard since I don't think the white will match too well with the rest of the parts I'm using. Just going to paint it black, nothing fancy. I used this acrylic conformal coating first just to be super safe, although the paint I'm using is non conductive so I don't think it matters either way. I also got most of my water cooling stuff in the mail today! Super exciting. Still need a 360 radiator for the front panel but it's going to be a while before I'll be needing it so no rush.
Finished painting the motherboard. Looks way better in black, I feel like it should be this way from the factory And I've cut this pattern into the front panel to improve airflow! I'll be adding some mesh on the back of the holes, and I do plan to paint the panel some color other than black. I still haven't decided what I want the color scheme to be though.
Painted the front panel, decided to go with a grey and black theme since it's neutral enough to be able to fully take advantage of RGB lighting. Hawkins power and light is a front for the bad guys in Stranger Things, in case anyone hasn't seen the show. Really excited to get started on modding the inside of the case now! I'm still going to add mesh to the holes on this panel, just haven't had a chance to pick some up yet.
Had to use four separate pieces of vinyl to get this picture to be big enough. Wasn't too hard lining them all up though surprisingly. It came out looking pretty good when I painted it and removed the vinyl. I also finished lighting up the PSU shroud decal. RGB of course, here it is! As you can see there's a small gap between the acrylic and the metal shroud that lets a little bit of light in. I want to put something in there that will block the light but I'm not sure what I can get to look good. It's just held on by some thin double sided VHB tape
I fixed the little glowing corner on the PSU shroud decal by adding some black tape over the area where the LED strip is, then I put all the parts together again! Project isn't finished yet, I still have to build an actual PC inside of this guy. But the case is finished I'm going to be editing a timelapse video of building this project so far, then I'm going to mod the hardware and build the PC.
Ohhhhhh so it's that show ! there was a big thread on a forum I frequent about how the bikes were not original 80's BMX bikes ! I must watch this show immediately does any one know if it's on Amazon or Netflix or what? Also - great work on the case, man. Anything even remotely related to BMX is alright in my books
As I was installing the parts, I realized my GPU was too long to fit next to the res. Ended up just putting it one lane down, and running with that. Bent the easier tubes first, just 90 degree angles and I only messed them up twice! Then the harder tubes running from the CPU block, I ended up messing them up about five times before I got what you see here. It's still not perfect, but I was running out of time. V1 tech sponsored me too! Black cable extensions, pretty sweet!
Here's the system in workable order! Not finished quite yet, I'm thinking about moving the fans to the front panel area so that there will be more space to fit the GPU in the top PCIE lane. I've also still got to add black dye which I don't have yet, it's just plane old distilled water for now. It's nice to have my computer back though!
Looking fantastic so far man, i really enjoyed the Video you did for this the explanations were spot on.
I think I can call this mod finished! It's not really, I'm still going to be playing with it a little bit over the course of the next couple of weeks, but I totally could leave it as is. Some final pictures + a video of me figuring out how to loop
