Suggestion for good modem!

    Hello, I am using a dial up connection, I need a good modem with fastest speed. Is there any hardware that allows to speed up the connection

    Erm, any 56k modem?

    are there really people still stuck on dial up?

    I think 56k is the best that you can get, but I'm sure I remember some sort of speed boosting software or something.

    Maybe it was just a marketing thing by my ISP at the time though.

    Yeah, I remember seeing something like this too. I think the link simon w posted might be the one I remember.

    It basically compresses the data before it's sent to you (which is then decompressed locally on your machine) - only works for http data though, so you won't see any performance increase in anything other than general surfing.

    There's no way you can get broadband in your area then, ultranet?
    You could go for ISDN, but imo it's a ripoff considering the limitations.
