I am just in the process of purchasing IP CCTV cameras to install around my home. I am trying to find the best software to run of a Windows laptop so I can manage and monitor the cameras through the surveillance software. Has anyone had any experience of using this type of software?

BlueIris works with most cameras & makes a good DIY NVR (you'll need a dedicated box to build it on)

Same here to suggest this. I run it on a Raspberry Pi 3 with a single camera, but I could probably add more cameras quite easily. I don't have any motion detection or anything fancy set up, just pure video stream copy to an external USB rust spinner.
