Storage Switching from IDE to AHCI

    I tried it a while ago and it didn't work in the end I just reinstalled windows.

    Thanks, got a bsod on startup though :/ running startup repair atm but I don't have high hopes.

    edit: set the wrong options in the bios, everything is working now :) yaaaaaay

    NCQ won't benefit you unless you are hosting a database on your PC, and in the average use case scenario for a desktop machine NCQ actually lessens performance. Not sure about you but I don't fancy hot plugging my OS drive, so other than that are there any other reasons you wanted AHCI instead of IDE?

    if you run in emulation mode ide there is some performance lost, if you have native sata drive sata 2 or 3 the ahci will be a lot faster, try running some benchmarks with ide mode and ahci mode, abour hot swapping drive i got a corsair obsidian case 650d there a slot at the top where you can hot plug any sata drive ideal if you got a spare pc gathering dust, or your mates pc had a problem.

    You need a full reinstall to set AHCI or it will blue screen in windows

    No you don't. You can do it without reinstalling through a registry tweak.
