Played the demo a little. They really need to make the melee combat more satisfying.

I'm ashamed to admit I've never played the original, and I never got more than a few minutes into the sequel as I played it years after its release and the graphics didn't really hold up.

Lots of mods to make it look a bit better, well worth a play.

I haven't played both of them since forever, and honestly - I think BioShock 1 will remain the pinnacle of that genre...

No System Shock 2, no Bioshock.
Bioshock is a great game but I think SS2 (dated graphics asides) is a far superior, well rounded game.

bioshock was always seen as a watered down console friendly version of SS2. SS2 is vastley superior in everyway and is still arguably one of the best immersion rpgs going.

Prey is the closest thing to a modern system shock we've had to the point where there are mods to change the name of it to Neural Shock

I still prefer the original System Shock. Specifically, the CD-ROM "talkie" re-release (which I've got, CIB) - in which most of the voice actors for the audio messages aimed for "scared and/or depressed" but hit "utterly, utterly bored." It's amazing.

I also used to have the sound-test file (SHODAN saying "look at you, hacker, a pathetic creature of meat and bone...") as my alarm tone. And I *still* use the V-mail alert as my message tone...

I really enjoyed SS2 but it's also very of it's time and user unfriendly. Particularly towards the end when you enter The Body it became a bit of the slog, to say nothing of the awkward melee combat and the equipment degredation. It's a lot like Deus Ex in that regard, yes it's a brilliant and deep game but it's also made to late 90s design conventions, coming at it now requires a concious effort to get into it.

loved bioshock, 2 and 3 were a bit hmm but yeah 1 was amazing. always wanted to play system shock but missed the boat and it hasn't aged well (same as witcher 1 so buzzing for a remake of that as I love 3)
so I'm been waiting patiently for this!

I have to say though... The graphics in the 20 minute playthrough I just skipped through don't look very good? Look like 360/ps3 or budget last gen console graphics?
Not too bothered but a bit disappointing compared to the awesome trailer I saw originally for it?
