1TB HDD's coming just read this snippet about a 1TB and was thinking how the hell would a home user fill that especially since with most Standard MB's you can now have 4+ Drives on them. Ive ripped all of my CD albums, downloaded alot of music tracks and TV episodes, but i am no where near a TB. apart from mass downloading of Movies or endless recording of TV how else is all this room going to be filled?
It's all too easy, especially when you're working with enormous TIFF/PSD files. At 768 MB's a peice, it adds up. It's even worse with rendering.
You'd be surprised how quickly it fills up when you start becoming a media whore - i've got 57GB of tv alone, and that's nothing compared to some people!
1TB is a lot to lose, but still great news for the media/encoding and graphics guys. Considering DVD images can be from 4-8 Gb a peice it eats your drives pretty fast, 100 dvd rips gets close to 1Tb.
oh i may be wrong on this but if i am correct it is Tera Bytes not Terror Bytes i am 99% that is hwo it is... Duggy
I think he was trying to make a joke on the word Terabyte... He meant it to be "Terror Byte". But yeah, I can think of a good way to fill up all that space.
I have ~ 700GB on this machine, and well over 500gb of it is used. A lot of it is TV episodes (every stargate episode in existance and nearly every star trek episode in existance), music, my software collection (all legal too!), random crap I have saved over the past 10 years, etc. Would not be too much of a stretch for me to fill a TB or two, I'm pretty sure my ST collection could use completing
At the moment I have 200Gig in my machine, and thought that would be more than enough, funny thing is im now moving stuff from partition to partition and backing up to DVD just like when I did on my 4Gig drive years ago, its never enough. As drive sizes increase, so does the media, applications, games etc, the more space manufacturers make available the more space developers will manage to fill. And a TB is great for those graphic junkies.
Theres this thread about it here I have 480GB of stuff, and last week I nearly lost all my staff in a 80GB partition, recovering it took 13 hours, backing this up to various HDD's in the computer and on the LAN took a few more, then reformatting it took another while. Doing that to 1TB would take days or weeks. But for a standard home user, they probably only use a few GB's, a tiny fraction of 1TB! But any ideas on the price range of these? If a Hitachi 400GB is available at <£200 my guess that they would be about £800 or so.
