This is the first time I have done the research and built a PC without any help, not because I'm bad with PCs I just didn't have the money to do so untill now... I needed a new PC that would handel my AutoCAD and 3DsMAX work, and at the same time a fun gaming computer. I hate upgrading so I got more then I really need right now but it should hold me longer then if I only got the bear minimum... So let me start by saying that my PC was built in a budget of $1,200 then $1,600 but came out at $1,752 I just couldn't help my self... My new PC is built around a Core i7 920 and an ASUS P6T motherboard, I wanted an i7 without being penniless so here is what I came up with... CPU: Intel Core i7 920 OC @ 3.3GHz CPU Fan: Cooler Master Hyper N520 Motherboard: ASUS P6T RAM: 6GB OCZ DDR3 1333MHz (6x1GB) @ 1331MHz GPU: BFG GeForce 9800GTX+ OC PSU: Antec TP3 650 Watt Case: Lian-Li PC-60B plus II Hard Drives: 2x Seagate Barracuda 500GB Optical Drives: Light-On IHAS220-06 & Pioneer DVR-116D I have a whole bunch of pictures of the parts and assembly as well as a 3DMark06 & PCMark05 score... Pictures are at post #9 3DMark06 & PCMark05 Scores are at post #11
I was going to say, so it can run in triple-channel mode, but bindibadgi does have a point, 3x2GB sticks could run in tri-channel as well. Why the 6x1GB sticks?
I got 3GB but then a few weeks later that I would upgrade from 32bit windows to 64bit, as I can not return the RAM I just got another 3GB... As for the pix I need a site to uploade to, I'm Free to any sugestions as long as it is free...
Tinypic, flikr, photobucket, your own personal website? ... Any of those will work, and are all free m8.
Finaly here are the pictures for every one to see, I moved around the house a lot so the backgrond keeps changing... Here is all the parts after the fun shopping spree... A nice look at the case PSU already installed... The case is fully modular so the the motherboard tray comes right out, that made the build so much easyer to do... ASUS P6T now in place... RAM installed and the socket is open for the Core i7 to go in... Intel Core i7 Box... And now the Core i7 920 in place... CPU Fan on and BFG GeForce 9800GTX+ OC installed... Now the the Motherboard tray is back in the case along with all four drives... A few random views... AN with the side on... After a week with the PC just as is I wanted some better cooling power and that is when I got the Cooler Master N520 The Box... And some other shots... And here is were it sits now...
I have also played with some over clocking but I couldn't keep it stable... I would love it if someone could show me how to overclock the Core i7 920 to 3.33GHz (x20 w/ BCLK 166) and keep it stable... I'm not looking for one of the super OC projects were they take the i7 to 4.0GHz+...
The best moment of all... Here are the different scores I got with PCMark05 and 3DMark06... 3DMark06 Stock test 1 (intel Fan) 3DMark06 Stock test 2 (Cooler Master N520 Fan) PCMark05 stock test (Cooler Master N520 Fan) Now I did play with some overclocking but I couldn't keep the PC stable so I pulled back to the stock speed of 2.66GHz, but here are the test resaults even if the PC isn't staying there now... 3DMark06 OC test 1 (3.2GHz) 3DMark06 OC test 2 (3.46GHz) PCMark05 OC test (3.2GHz)
I have now managed to get the PC to sit stable with CPU @ 3.3GHz (20x166 w/ Turbo off) and my RAM (1333MHz) is @ 1331MHz CPU core temp did not pass 65c and ran Prime95 for 12h8m untill one thread failed. I didn't have to do any voltage mods or play with any other settings... I'm happy with that and I'm not going any father.
