Currently the only way to programme a LCD is via Serial or Parrall as I understand it.

The question is, the Abit AT7 has no legacy ports AT ALL!!!! So how will be programme them when these type of boards become more mainstream???

The fact is serial ports have been around as long as PCs themselves. They are very easy to program to but only because most old programming languages had them in mind.

The point is valid! Look at MO they are a profit making company, i'm sure they will progress with technology.

Another note, You can get USB to serial/parallel cables anyone tried one with an LCD??

THe problem is the market... 90% of LCDs are NOT used in computers but in embeded applications, and there USB is still non existent but RS232 (serial) is.

usb serial adaptors do exist yep... and you can always add serial port pci cards (they're very cheap).

I think the computer world is a long way off shoving serial devices off the market anyway... we'll see :)

I was just saying the very same thing about lack of legacy ports to a mate the other day. As soon as they stop being on boards the cost of the USB to serial adapters should drop a bit.

I suspect that most of the first (and even second) generation of new mobos that remove legacy ports will do what the MSI nForce board (just an example I have, most onboard video mobos do this) does and have a 10 pin connector on the surface of the mobo where you can attatch a serial port. If this is the case then you can connect your LCD internally direct to the mobo. If not then i imagine there'll still be the USB header for extra USB ports (I know it has many USB ports already on the mobo but for people who use front USB ports I expect them to keep the spare USB headers even if connecting them disables some of the rear ports) on the mobo so we'll go over to using them for data transfer. From what I read those headers are actually very versatile and even if an adapter needs to be constructed who would build an LCD without being about to solder an adapter (or even just buy on pre-asembled)
