They guys, here in NZ for the last two years, the weather has been getting a bit screwy. In my home town, dunedin we normally have at least one snow settling a year, and frost in winter normally for about 4 weeks solid. This past winter (your summer, for northern hemis) we had maybe 3 frosts, and no snow what-so-ever. The winter before was kind of like this, but less so. On the flip side, the summers have been terrible! we have had much less sunny days, in general its colder and we have more rain... Whats the deal with the other side of the world? are you guys experiencing less extremes in summer and winter? Just curious.
Hmm, not really, we had a few blazing hot days in the summer and we've been having some snow recently which is a little unusual. Global warming is playing with our minds!
Well, would you believe that we had snow and rain last week, and come the first of march it's as if somebody turned on the sun again .... the last two days have been nice a sunny -- albeit a tad cool.
Actually, here in North Eastern part of the US, we've been breaking records for warmth in the summer and cold in the winter. There was a stretch in December through January where it didn't get above 10ºf for 3 weeks and durring the worst part of it, it didn't get over 0ºf for a few days. A few times it dipped to around -20ºf. Last July there were a couple of days where the temps got up over 100ºf which isn't rare, but is unusual. So 120º tempreture swings between summer and winter around here. As far as snow, we didn't break records, but we did get a bit more than usual.
In Baltimore, MD, USA (east coast USA), it's 72F here. Please understand that it's usually about 50F this time of year. So yeah, weather is a wee wacky lately.
Earlier this winter we tied a record high... then on Valentine's day it snowed (which is a SHOCK here, we usually get ice every other year or so, NEVER snow...) But over-all the weather's been pretty average (as far as Texas weather goes...
