    Guys,

I've got a Ti4200 in my system at the moment, and while building my dad's new PC over the weekend I grabbed his old 9500Pro for me; at the time I thought it was the better card, but I'm not sure now .... can anyone set me straight on this? Which is the better card?

    Thanks,

i think theyre petty much the same performance wise, with the nvidia slightly having the edge.

9500 pro all the way mate. No contest. DX9 support, for one.

You will need to flash it with a 9700 pro BIOS if you want to overclock it. IIRC all the 9500pros were clock-locked.

You can get a 9500pro!! SWEET! They were more/as powerful than 9600XTs.

9500Pro all the way again. 8 pixel pipes (same as 9700/9800pro), compare the ti4200's 4. The only differences between the 9500Pro and 9700Pro are clockspeeds and memory interface (9500 only has 128bit). But still, great card, and should be able to overclock with ATiTool

    I took a 9500NP non softmoddable over Ti4200... so easy choice 9500P.

9500Pro's wont unlock to anything. They already have the 8 open pipelines of the 9700, and all only have 128-bit memory, which cannot be changed.

9500 Non Pro's on the other hand have 256-bit memory, but only 4 open pipelines, with the possibility to unlock the other 4 to make them basically a 9700.

If you want to overclock a 95pro, you need to change the bios to a 97pro or softmod it. Therefore "unlocking it" seems like a suitable phrase. Only the ones with the memory in an L shape can be flashed to 97pro IIRC as they are on the same PCB that the 97pro uses.

Thats what I mean. All 9500Pros have I shaped memory, and are therefore only 128-bit. And I dont really see why you cant just use AtiTool to overclock with the normal bios...

But that won't change the fact that they only have the 128bit memory though unlike the 9500nps what can be softmodded...

My bad, they are all I shaped. Didn't know ati tool could unlock them either. When I had one the only way to overclock it was to change the BIOS.

    Whatever. 9500pro > ti4200.

i didnt think the 9500pro could be unlocked anymore than it was.
a 9500 np may be a better choice to see if you can get the full memory bandwidth etc.
