    Hmm a little bit over

If you are using old hard drives you might have a problem if they are IDE as these new motherboards only have one IDE socket (2 IDE devices)

It's scan.co.uk and the card is pretty good, especially on your budget.

You can't second a question. I would say go with the 6300 as it is in your budget and it gives better performance out fothe box than the 4300.

    E6300, 2GB of 5400-C4 (about £50 off scan) and an 8600 GT.

Gotta agree with Mankz. The revision of Corsair 5400-C4 I've had experience with clocked up to 833Mhz with a bit of voltage push. The E6300 seems to clock better with less voltage then the E4300. The 8600GT is a bit weaker, but has DX10 so it's really whether or not DX10 support matters to you. If you ever get a chance to upgrade the cooler on the 8600GT it seems to overclock well.

I'm going to agree (most) with kingdavies on the specs for the price tbh (though I'd settle for 2GB of 667 (PC5400) myself rather than 1GB of 800).
I'd also be inclined to use a 965 chipset board (like a Gigabyte DS3) but only because I've had good results myself.

Funny how Scan's prices really are daily fluctuations the same CPU is now £100.23 with VAT incuded, also don't forget to check to check the todayonly section after 12, they regularly drop C2D prices by a fair chunk :)

So yeah, that's the basics of what I'd choose, just shop around for the best prices and deals, and don't forget, sometimes getting parts from several stores even after shipping, can work out cheaper than all from the same place.
For example if you use Ebuyer and buy an E4300 you can get £10 (google checkout) off and free delivery making it a £63 CPU instead :D
