http://www.bit-tech.net/gaming/2008/11/28/tomb-raider-underworld/1 Lara is back. Back on form, back on track, back in black. Just back in general. Now, the new Lara continues on with her quest to rescue her mother, we take a look to see if Underworld is all we hoped. Or we will as soon as we tear our eyes away from Lara's backside anyway...
Someday I'll give one of these games a try. Should I find it weird that I've been into gaming since the days of the Speccy (arghh, 1982!!) and I've never played a Tomb Raider game?
i havent played a tomb raider since the original, i was enjoying anniversary until i bumped into the **** "now mash random combo to avoid being eaten" crap, i might pick this up, it certainly looks rather polished.
Jump forward, not backwards otherwise...BOOM! (priceless wtf moment ^^) Anyways, good review of the game. I played the demo and must say I was rather impressed in some areas while others not so much. Do note I have a gamepad for my PC which changes the controls to the way it was designed to be played -Animation: a lot better, we can see the mo-cap but she moves way to fast when rock climbing on walls. Assassin's creed got the right speed for this, TR is too quick and jerky and looks really weird. And where the hell is the famous ledge climb hand stand!? She also pulls out her guns way to quickly too... -Graphics: pretty good, had the recommended setup so all maxed out -Camera: some issues, but I noticed that if you didn't twiddle with the camera in the problematic areas, it would set up correctly in 'special angles'. Just avoid changing the camera view so you don't override this...unless you like 'porno vision' ^^ I'll probably rent or buy this when it's cheaper though
I enjoyed Legend and I'm tempted to get Anniversery, I'm intrigued by Underworld continuing the story on from Legend, but I found the XBL demo to be a bit annoying in places - i may get it after a price drop but then again....
Tomb raiders alright and I might have a dabble but Crystal Dynamics really need to go back the Legacy of Kain series it was just sooooo good.
I'm enjoying the game, I'm having no problems with the controls using a 360 pad on the PC, some of the animation steps and clipping issues I've noticed in this game are laugable, there was one point where you have to jump from a ledge to a pole (well there are a few ) I moved the camera at the same time as thejump and Lara landed and was just standing there in mid air as if she landed on the pole but infact she was in between pole and ledge I guess QA was not high up on the list of things to do on this game still its enjoyable, I've not found the puzzles that difficult but I'm only half way through, though i have to admit Spoiler when I dropped the left hand on Shiva I expected to have to go on a mad quest to climb up the other side too rather than just walk across and use me grapple that took me ages before I realized there was no other route, plenty of leaps to me death then, perhaps I wasn't paying enough attention when I pulled the bar down.

If memory serves me, Natla appeared in first Tomb Raider. I thought she was destroyed for good. Seems like TR devs likes to resurrect dead characters...they should be more careful about it or they may turn TR into some sick soup opera. I wonder when will they reveal Amanda as Lara's evil twin just to keep story exciting.
I risked it and got Underworld and I have to say while the game is not perfect, it's a nice change gameplay wise to the usual Shooters, Rpg's etc. Oh and good job on the review.
