Right not realy a car specific question but hopefully someone can help me out. Im getting a MAF error on my car (A4 1.8 T Quattro) and thought before going out and buying a new one I would try and fix the original one. Basicly Ive stumbled at the first hurdle, the maf sensor is bolted in with two bolts that look like a torx pattern but instead of having the 6 points it only has 5. Ive never seen a 5 pointed torx pattern before, anyone know what its called or where I can get one in the UK? Cheers for the help. Pete.
Pete, is it an internal or external torx pattern? I.e. is is a driver type bit you need or a socket type bit? If it's a driver, I believe it's one of these: http://www.wihatools.com/716_IPR_serie.htm
My car has a few 5-sided bolts holding the brake calipers together. Ever get the feeling they try to make some things hard to remove on purpose?
Nah, you just need to know where to look... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Trident-5-fiv...ryZ30922QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem They're not supposed to be sold to the general public, but you can find them.
Cheers GOO thats the one, Ive managet to track down a full set in the UK cheap as chips http://www.premiertoolsinternational.co.uk/products/Socket_5_Sided_Torx_Set_9pc.htm
Indeed, I just mentioned it because there's no reason that I can see why they would use 5-sided bolts other than to discourage people from removing them.
