I recently ordered a used 73GB 15k RPM u320 SCA drive off eBay for my computer, along with a SCA to SCSI adaptor. Problem is, when I installed it in my system, the computer no longer sees any SCSI drives. I tried changing the position on the cable and changing the SCSI ID jumper without success. When the data cable is not connected the drive, it audibly spins up when powered on however when the data cable is connected it doesn't make the same noise, though I can't say for sure that it is not spinning up. When I pull the data cable off the computer sees my other SCSI drive normally.

Computer is a dual Opteron 250 system built on a Tyan S2895 / K8WE mobo. My other drive is a 10K RPM 68 pin SCSI on the same chain.

    Possibilities as I see them...

    1. Drive is bad
    2. Adaptor is bad
    3. Drive is somehow incompatible with my system
    4. I have something configured wrong

    Thoughts?
