I am currently running with Win7 Professional, which has, and continues to be, updated automatically. I was notified that the Win7 SP1 was ready to be installed so installed it. Install seemed to go fine and asked me to reboot, which I did. When it rebooted into Windows, it continued installing and got to about 15% done when a message cam up to say the install had failed! It then reverted to the pre-install state. Since then, I have tried a couple of times to install it to no avail. I tried switching off AV & firewall but this has made no difference. I am still able to install the individual updates with no problem at all (eg a couple of security updates were available and these installed ok). Any thoughts on what to try next?
go here scroll to bottom of page and look for 'Downloading and installing SP1 from the Microsoft Download Center' follow the procedures there, and see how you go
It's just a shot in the dark but can you try installing it in safe mode? I'm unsure as to whether or not you can actually run Windows Update in safe mode... Just thinking out loud Failing that as a last resort you can now obtain copies of Windows 7 with Service Pack 1
Ever used driver sweeper to clean GPU drivers? Try running "sfc /scannow". Does it finish with errors?
One thing I found is if you have the additional language packs installed it fails. Not sure if they fixed that bug but if you have any installed, try removing them.
Did you check the log file ? C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log i think : http://markparris.co.uk/2011/02/22/...lation-failure-error_access_denied0x80070005/
Yup, followed the instructions, but no joy! Tried it and got no errors No No, unfortunately no additional language packs have been installed!
Just wanted to say a big thank you to all who have replied Even if I don't manage to get things sorted out, at least I will know I have tried everything possible with your suggestions.
Error that repeatedly crops up is "CBS_E_INVALID_PACKAGE". Seems as if this has happened to a lot of people! No real solutions found and only rectified with a clean install!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Still searching to see if there is a solution (or even a cause)
As anybody found a answer to this problem apart from a complete reinstall which I want to avoid.Tokari please let us know if the repair install works,I dont want to have to reinstall all my programs again esp as I'm using a ssd.
You're better off not installing this abomination. I'm a gamer, and many of my titles no longer work properly. They variously won't launch at all (Crysis, Dawn Of War II), while some launch but there's just audio, no video (Crysis Warhead). Others won't let me play them as I can't enter my product key (which I'd already entered successfully long before update) eg Dirt 2 and Dirt 3. I just get Games For Windows Live Error 0x80070003 I wish I'd never seen the sodding notification "SP1 now available". I now have potentially hours of work ahead to fix problems that didn't exist prior to Friday morning.
For me, I've found that SP1 requires a reinstall to work properly. Having said that, I managed to install it on a friend's PC after installing a few programmes (because I forgot about it ) and everything turned out okay. Mind you, only a few updates had installed prior to it. @mikemorton I can confirm that all my games work fine having reinstalled Windows with SP1. I do keep my Steam folder on another drive though, so no re-downloading for me! So, I'd reinstall TBH. It'll take less time than trying to fix it manually anyway as I believe GFWL integrates rather closely with Windows. I REALLY need to look into creating a drive image.
