Hey, I just got a laptop off my friend and I'm thinking of upgrading the CPU. Its a HP dv5201eu. It already has a Sempron 3100+, and I'm assuming it is socket 754. Also, if it is possible to upgrade the CPU, and ideas where I can get one? Thanks in advance

It should be possible to change it. Getting at the processor in a laptop is a pain though. I opened one once to reapply some thermal paste and you have to be prepared to strip it down completely and reassemble everything in exactly the right order or it wont go back in.

What do you plan to upgrade the cpu to? Do remember that if its much hotter than the previous one, the fan might not be able to handle it.

Ahhh right ok then. Its just it has been upgraded to 1.5GB of RAM so I thought the last place to get a cheap performance boost would be the CPU. So you don't think getting a Turion in there would help?

What do you want to use it for? And a CPU upgrade may be cheap, but its much harder than upgrading RAM. Unless you have experience in dismantling laptops you risk easily breaking the entire laptop.
