Hullo! Basically, my issue is that the USB ports on my laptop are physically incapable of working (due to an error on the part of a user of the laptop), and the connectors on the mobo are too close together for me to solder replacement ports on. I also can't afford a new motherboard right now. It's an Acer Aspire 5532 running Windows 7 Home Premium. The goal is to use another port, or my home network, to control a USB device, such as a flash drive, mouse, webcam, and/or USB hub. I have an SD port on the laptop. I also have a single 3.5mm audio jack for a microphone, and an ethernet line-in port. I've looked around to see if there's something to allow me to plug a USB device into an SD port, but the only thing I've found appears to support storage media, nothing else. Does anyone have any ideas, and if so, what are they? Thanks!
That's a good idea, although that particular product has poor reviews. Do you think I could hook a hub up to something like this: http://www.amazon.com/SIIG-ID-DS051...J9ZW/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1321834278&sr=8-6 and run a mouse and printer from it? It's quite a bit cheaper, although it has only one port.
