150 could be the FSB but that's set too high. Did you set that your self. Also you should not be able to run a 2500 at a multiplier of 11. I think the multiplier of the 2500 should be 16 but these things change all the time and don't go up in any logical order. I used to have a list of all the current XP FSBs, multipliers, PRs and actual speeds but can't find it at the moment. Google is being dead annoying too. No one seems to want to give this kind of info straight.
the 150 bit i did with the help of a friend to get it running faster than it was as standard, the lowest it can goto is 133 so it cant be set to 100, also it goes up to a max of 288 but i dont dare to go over 150 cos of the temps. the 11 is correct, pc health and fuzzy logic say so, i cant b bothered to goto bios to check. hmm any more ideas on the weird 1900 bit? oh u got aol im or msn to talk, it would be easier than this ^^ thx
Ok someone more knowlegable could have told you earlier that the multiplier is supposed to be 11 and the FSB is supposed to be set to 166. The temps are absolutely fine I don't know where you got the idea that below 50 for load temps was bad. (consdering mine are in the high 60s).
hmm at what temp does an amd start to mash and not work? what temp can i take it to? lastly the thing with the 1900 display, any ideas on this? could it be that it is somehow mashed down to a 1900?lol
Well 150x11 is 1650Mhz which is quite close to the 1900+ speed of 1600Mhz. Your chip should run at 1833 (166x11). The chip can take a temp up to about 85 but you wouldn't be very wise to let it run that hot what with 10 degree errors in temp readings and hot days increasing temps. Just change the FSB to the default of 166. And is mash your favorite word for some reason of something?
Mash seems to be his favourite word. And to run a 2500+ you *should* set the FSB with jumpers on your mobo to 166. But if the jumpers only do 100 and 133, then you would have to do it in the BIOS. Like you are and DeX is telling you. -cLoWn
err how would i set the fsb using jumpers? i am on 150 fsb now, but if i did use jumpers, would that mean it would display 2500 on the system#?
You would set the BIOS settings to normal. There should be a jumped on your motherboard (check the manual) to setting the CPU FSB, 100, 133 and on soem boards 166. If yours has the option of 166, set it to 166 and it will display your CPU as a 2500+. If it doesnt, as not all mobos have a 166 option. Then take DeX's advise and set the FSB and multiplier accordingly in the BIOS. -cLoWn
ok, if i do only set the fsb to 166 in the mobo, will it peform just as it would if i set 166 in the bios?
Well I've done some more work, and still not fixed PSU is a single fan (quietpc model) so not much heat exit there. I now have one NMB fan pulling in at the front base, this has had all grills and plastic removed from its path, just a finger guard on it. Above the PCI cards at the back is an identical fan pulling air out - no guard at all. In front of the Zalman on the CPU is a Panaflo L1A pushing air at the cpu. There is also a quietpc 80mm fan cable tied to the gfx card pushing air onto that. Drive cables have been replaced with rounded ones. Heatsink compound is now arctic silver 3. With the case on I now have idle cpu temp of 59oC and system temp of 30oC. I'm very happy with the system temp (HDD are reporting 35 btw), but the CPU doesn't seem to be much better. I have tried a 92mm fan at roughly half speed, this gave a drop of 1degree, I also tried sucking away from the CPU, this increased temp by 4. Anymore ideas ? Possibly any bios settings that might be wrong causing this ?
With the setup you have just described your CPU is fine, it has really got to be the motherboard sensors being off. -cLoWn
I am running a logging util with MBM at the moment to get some more accurate stats, will give it a week and see what they come out at.
Status Report .... I've been running a little monitoring util in the taskbar when using the machine and its results for the last 7 days are as follows : System Max : 32c System Average : 28.7c CPU Max : 61c CPU Average : 55.1c Temps @ time of post Sys : 27c Cpu : 53c. The hard drive temp is much happier as well, it use to creep around 50 - which is max for the drive !, now I haven't seen it go above 35 I'm very happy with this, so just thought I would pop back to the thread and say Thanks for everybodys help and advice
