Hi all. I want to try something with an old vga card. It has a stock cooler on it but it doesn’t work anymore. A also have a old Pentium 4 cooler. And a was wondering how to mount that cooler on to my card. The heat sink fits on the card, but It’s not mounted. Anny idea’s to get the heat sink on my card?. Geforce 7300le Pentium 4 cooler
Hmm, I would have suggested drilling holes in the buttom plate to mount it. But it only covers the core on those ones. Depending on the spacing of the holes on the card, I would say making some sort of long bolt that bolts through the card, and then clips onto the clips of the cooler. Or some very strong thermal adhesive + cable ties through the mounting holes and over the cooler.
I don't think you even need the fan for this video card model. Just the heat sink is enough. I mean their exists the 7300 model without a fan.
well, what i did before was to drill some larger than necessary holes into the heatsink, first start with drilling a hole just wider than the bolt your using the position required on the heatsink then take a drill bit just smaller than a suitable nut for that bolt and drill a little recess in. then, take a hammer and the nuts and hammer the nuts into the little depressions that you made on the heatsink and screw it in!
id try long cable ties first, there flexiable, and can give really good mounting pressure for just a test mount and run.
cable ties won't work. The card will bend end crack by the weight of the heatsink. @bixie_62: that’s a good idea I’ve done some paint work again. Is that what you mean? When I will drill the holes is it possible that one or two heatplates (alu) will fall off?
i beg to differ on that, you'll be surprised how much deflection you can put on a PCB before it gets damaged. I think you need to take a trip over to another site, and flick though there pages..
