I was wondering if any of you had any advice on a good water cooling set up on a budget, or advice on things/makes to avoid.
I've been told you can get relitivly good results without breaking the bank but dont want to buy anything without siome advice first.
I'm not reall overclocking that hard so dont need anything amazing but would like to have the choice if possible. Any idea's?

    Thanks

have a look in the FS forums .... few ppl are getting rid of their watercooling parts.

what's ur budget? how far u willing to spend.

go for Radiator, pump and waterblock first.

when u come across more money u could always add the graphics block, res etc.

    hope this helps :thumb:

Get posting and get in the f/s board.

In the last couple of months ive been putting together a second, budget, loop for my HTPC. It ended up costing a little more than £60. so it can be done.

    hi
i got some amazing secondhand deals from the forums on coolercases.co.uk
they also have some nice kits new there too and their service is the best i have had from any suplier.

also you need to decide if you want 10mm or 12mm (1/2").
you want cooling preformance, or silence or a combination of both.

if i was going to spend that much, i would look at either the Aqua-Computer or the new coolermaster kit.

Is there much performance diferance between 10mm and 12mm then?

I was aiming for noise reduction more than anything, but as i said the chioce to have more cooling performance as well would be a bonus.

Is it worth buying a kit or would i do better to get all the nessecery componants seperatly, 2nd hand looks like the best bet aswell so i'll start looking around.

If you're going to spend money on anything, spend it on the pump. Its the only part that can really 'fail'.

tests have shown that a good block makes a bigger difference than a pump. but i saw that test a while back. i would go for a really good pump, and a heater core b/c it's cheaper than any BIX, and a used block. i've gotten some great deals on some blocks by going through forums.

asetek's pre-built kits are a rip. I built myself a lovely one consisting of the SAME parts as their kits for oh, $110 less... minus tubing ( a grand $4)

A lot of kits really do provide a good value though, provided you're not going to pillage a junkyard for a heatercore and a slab of copper to make your own waterblocks.

And to answer that question earlier, 3/8" and 1/2" (10/12mm) are generally very similar performance nowadays, since even large-bore blocks typically rely more on high pressure than high flow. It's mostly personal preference. IMHO, most (NOT all, but most) people that go with 1/2" do so because they have the whole "bigger is better" notion in their head, but I've got a four-block 6mm (1/4") setup and temps are great. I like the smaller stuff, so between the two I'd definately go with 10mm.
