I have a gigabyte a320m-h which I bought for no reason other than it was £19.99! I'm initially thinking put it in my ML04b which is low profile so would benefit from an APU. Looking at prices for APUs (even used) I get the feeling I should consider just using it to replace my athon fx 8350 system and go for something like a ryzen 3600 or second hand 2600. Feels strange as it would be a very budget upgrade but my old system is pretty long in the tooth and since I can't really get a replacement for my r9 380 I'm not going to be able to majorly upgrade performance just yet. So budget htpc with APU or ultra budget replacement for the athlon, and in either case which cpu?
Decent APUs look hard to come by at the moment, if you have a spare GPU, definitely consider the R5 2600/3600 CPUs. I've been playing with a B450M with an R3 1200, which seems to be about as powerful as a non K Skylake i5 CPU. I'll put a 3600 in it when I find a suitably affordable GPU for it.
I have B450 Pro and Ryzen 3600, and it's enough powerful to play games, just have 1030 ( 2GB) graphic card. You should go for 3600 Ryzen. Buy it now before price will go up 10 %
I'd say an any first or second gen Ryxen X SKU if third gen I wouldn't be so worried about getting an X
OCUK forum £70, I'm still on the look out for a deal on a 3000 series CPU if I find one I'll be happy to pass along the 2600x for what it cost me
Good luck then! At the moment voting is neck and neck so I think it will come down to whether an bargaining APU or CPU comes up first!
I think I have sourced a 3600 (before even using the 2600x ) I will list it on the marketplace and give you first refusal if you want? once the 3600 shows up
I gave it a quick try on the board to see how it was. VRM temps in the mid 70s when gaming but got up to 120c after 20 minutes of cinebench, which is total worst case scenario. I've listed it giving you first refusal but. It's no problem if you want to give it a miss. Thanks Scott
