Game itself is OK. If you like that kind of RPG-esque stuff with accepting missions and navigating your way to them and buying/selling equipment etc.

The actual combat seems to be much toned down from the adrenaline-fuelled crazy dance that was previous id games. IMO anyway

IMO the difinitive skill-based shooter is Half Life 2: Deathmatch - to be good at this game you needed skill in a number of areas: aim, movement, strategy, teamplay.

It was very popular for a number of years but now hacking kids are ruining it with their "l337 skillz," eg. enhanced aim, illegit macros, wall hacks etc. and it's just boring because guys who have been playing for a few months are owning players who have been at it for years. Valve Anti Cheat is just a complete joke IMO.

Some 1v1 action from one of the top players.

I disagree the original Call of Duties called for some skill. If were blaming I blaming, I blame Modern Warfare. I always liked Battlefield from the first to now, they seem more realistic and required skill specially Battlefield 1 and 2.

My fave shooter was Vietcong, just they never really managed to get rid of the cheats (same as most games now).

I thoroughly enjoyed Vietcong, though the sequel was rubbish!

Skill? This is what comes straight to mind for me (although CS 1.6 pro's come a close second).

I'm sure many of you will remember playing tfc and seeing this kind of gameplay. Drives you nuts when they can traverse the map and capture the flag in mere seconds!
