    Hi, just a quick question.

Some games give you the option to choose a refresh rate as well as a resolution, so I was wondering what exactly the refresh rate is, and what refresh rate is my monitor?

My monitor is a Samsung SyncMaster 2032BW.

Also, what is my natural resolution? I run it at 1680x1050, but I'm not sure if this is the natural resolution. Is there any problems with running a monitor above its natural resoultion?

One more thing: Most games when they are first installed run a system check to give the best possible settings for your PC, however on mine all games start the resolution at the lowest, 800x600 usually, which means that they increase the graphics which in result means that when I increase the resolution, the game doesn't run smoothly until I fiddle about with the graphics, which can take a while.

My graphics card is an Asus 512mb 8800GT.

    Thanks.

Edit: Sorry if this is in the wrong forum section, wasn't sure which one to put it in.

Monitor's won't run past their native resolution so you don't have to worry about running it above that... it will just go black and say the resolution is not supported than after 30 seconds windows will go back to the last saved resolution.

As for the refresh rate, just check out the owners manual and it should have all the technical information inside.

Okay thanks. I don't have the manual with me but I'll try to find it online.

Any idea why all my games start at 800x600 res until I save settings?

refresh rate is the number of times the screen "refreshes" or updates the image on screen.

so if you have a monitor with 60Hz then it can refresh itself 60 times in 1 sec.

    a samsung 2032BW is 1680x1050 @ 60hz.

generally if your graphics have been set low it is because the games own built in detection is rubbish or doesnt know what card you have.

therefore you have to set manually and it will start with the lowest settings possible usually to ensure that it will start up so you can make changes
