    All,

Currently I've got an 8800GTS in my box but I'm looking to get a new nVidia card (note, has to be nVidia) It doesn't have to be top of the line or anything and looking to spend under £100.

What's the best one to go for? (If anyone has a card that fits this and wants to sell it I don't have an issue with 2nd hand kit)

I dont think you have much of a choice here, there is a person selling a 8800gtx on here for 45 pounds.
Is yours the 512mb or the 384?
Other wise you are looking at a second hand 260GTX if you get one.
EDIT: forgot to mention the 450GTX is supposed to be coming very very shortly, It would be worth waiting.

I don't think there's much you're going to get tbh. Only chance would be a GTX260 or the 8800GTX, everything else isn't much of an upgrade.

You could put a 'wanted' up in the marketplace.

Any reason is has to be nVidia?

That's not too bad actually. I've never had an issue with them, I know most people have. I only buy if it's something I really want and they have it cheapest.

    As for the GTX260 for £117? Have a look at the GTX460's, there's a Plait one there for £144, and it's vastly more powerful. BC2 shot up 40fps when I went from a 260 to a 460.

Also the 5770 has been cut in price, I think we will see the 6XXX Series very very soon.
Why don't yo trust overclockers may i ask?

I've heard some bad things about Overclockers support service in the past but I havn't used them so I shouldn't judge.

The 5770 seems like a much better deal, I only posted the GTX 260 due to the fact that he seems to want Nvidia (let's try & convert him eh? ;)). And the GTX 460 seems well outside his price range despite offering much better bang for buck.

What resolution do you want to run your graphics card? What games do you want to play? (assuming it is for gaming :) )

The ati 5770 is definitely the right card at this price point ...

If my cash conversions are correct the best card for your price range (assuming you don't count the money you get from selling your current card) is the 9800 gtx or the gts 250

The problem is that depending on which 8800gts he has, it'll either be a really small upgrade or a really really small upgrade.

The only reason the GTS250/9800gtx+ perform better than the gts 512 is that they have higher clockspeeds - apart from that, they both use the same base G92 core.

OP - if you've got your heart set on nVidia for whatever reason, you probably won't find anything particularly good in that price range.

If I were you, I'd either get a 5770 or perhaps save up and get a GTX460. Otherwise, you'll be looking for some seriously old tech that won't really be an upgrade.

A lot of good advice so far but I'd put a bit more money in the pot and get a GTX 460 1GB personally. :)

Dude u r looking for an upgrade so look up to GTX460. Since u 've been using 8800GTS, i believe u r a slow upgrader like me & not going to upgrade for another 1-2 years. Don't go after the 1GB version, 768MB does the job well.

Also, GTS450 will be showing up in another 1-2 weeks & be going head to head with HD5770. u can peek into that but if u can afford to go for GTX460, u gonna see some real performance.

The gts is rumoured to be sub 5770 in performance as it will be in price. And With Ati's 6xxx cards only about 8 weeks away, the 5770 is therefore likely to drop in price soon aswell.

I do think the question "why does it have nVdia" deserves an answer.

wow lots of stuff to read and look in to. Reason it has to be nVidia is that it has to support PureVideo.. and that's only on nVidia cuda cards. The 8800GTS doesn't do full PureVideo hence needing an upgrade. Re games : Only ones I play are Dragon Age (soon to be Dragon age 2!) and Dawn of war 2, neither are super taxing.

So is your software specifically nVidia only? ATI cards have AVIVO if it's just the end result you want...
