I think the best bet for you if, you want a graphics card under £100, is to go with ATI. Hurts me to say it because I'm an avid Nvidia user, but you can get a decent ATI card for £100.
Your pretty limited then, Either go for a second hand 260GTX(still a great card) or wait for the 450GTX or pay the extra money for a 460GTX
Linus_T can't go ATi as they don't do PureVideo. Murraynt, think i'm going to have to go for a 260 I guess or wait a few weeks for the 450GTX. Both are going to be far better than the 8800GTS i have now so it shouldn't matter which
Personally, I think you'll see a much bigger leap by saving up for the GTX460 - the 450 is supposed to be slightly slower than the 5770, whilst the GTX460 is faster than the 5850 yet is still good value for money.
so the 460 it is - anyone know of a good place selling it // 2nd hand? And.. which make to go for, i've always gone BFG but *shrug*
Sadly there's no more BFG.. Most people are liking the Gigabyte card, but I'd personally save up even more and get the MSI Hawk for ultra silence.
Umm, sorry, but would you mind telling us what program(s) require Purevideo? I've always thought the whole Purevideo malarkey is a bunch of settings to make your videos look over-saturated, over-sharpened and just wrong in general. And seeing you don't play anything too demanding, the 450 might do the trick. Also second hand cards, but then again if you're able to stretch to GTX460, it's the single Nvidia to get right now.
Can you tell me what video encoder? For all video encoding I've seen, Handbrake will produce a similar quality video at roughly the same speed on the cpu - what you're saying implies gpu encoding, which is usually said to be inferior.
I find it sad that BFG who had good support for the UK and went under (could of just sold ATI cards). But on topic, is the GTS the 512 or the 320/640.
would one of these :: http://forums.bit-tech.net/showthread.php?t=193972 do? or would i be better off with http://forums.bit-tech.net/showthread.php?t=194006?
