I'm looking to get some PC2700 [333] ram for my second rig and have been looking at the Twinmoss and Samsung stuff... Anyone care to give there oppinion on decent-ish but cheap-ish [~£80] PC2700 ram? I'm not bothered about pared dimms as it's for an Asus A7V8X mobo so no duel channel... System specs are: 1800xp T-Bred b Asus A7V8X bios ver 1013 Leadtech TI4200 8x Cheers!
Why not use some TwinMos 3200 ram? Means you *may* be able to get a higher FSB or better use tighter timings at 166 compared to 2700 ram... Samsung isnt bad, actually neither is twinMos tbh... had both to 210 FSB, only 2.75v in a NF7-s in single channel tho...
I can't really use PC3200 in an A7V8X mate, as it can only handle 1 dimm of it I need to get more than 512mb of ram as BF1942 takes forever to load with 512mb, so gunna use a 512mb and a 256mb stick of PC2700 as it can use 2 or 3 sticks of that... So which do you think is better out of Twinmoss and Samsung? Both are about the same price... Happy new year mate!
Ah right see your point.. tho will it not be ok if it isnt running at ddr400? Anyone else have this board? Umm prolly the Twinmos may be yor best bet, the later sticks of samsung have been a bit sketchy... having said that have 2*256 of the stuff happliy keeping up with a 512mb stick of Corsair XMS cas2.... same to u m8
Not sure about running DDR 400 at 333. Dunno if it will do that so its probably safer to just get DDR 333... So the Twinmoss is a little more reliable then? May go with that then, unless anyone else can suggest an alternative?
probably the best bet tbh.... it seems to be the best value ram... and you are garaunteed a little overclockability at least with it....
Its cas 2.5 but dunno about the others... Why do sites never seem to show this info? Here's the link... http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/Adata.html
mmm could be simialr to the TwinMos no winbond then... if you could afford 3200 it may give better timings at 166 fsb.....
There is no problem with running DDR 400 memory @ 333. In fact depending on the momory you may even get better memory timings with DDR 400 at @333. We have a pair of AMD Barton XP2800 on Epox KT-600's with 1 GB (2x512) of Samsung PC3200 (DRR 400) running @ 333. I am sure the A7V8X can run PC3200 using two banks and PC2700 in four banks, it quotes it on there website.....
You sure thats not the A7V8X-X? I seem to remember that it says it only supports 1 bank of PC3200 in the A7V8X manual... Maybe they changed it a bios update? I'll look into it then. You got a link for the website? Thanks for your help.
The Asus webpages say they support the same configuration of memory. A7V8X A7V8X-X EDIT :- I just read the motherboard manuals for both the A7V8X and the A7V8X-X. The ASUS website is bit missleading in its information. In the manuals. The A7V8X supports 1 DIMMS of PC3200 and two DIMMS of PC2700. The A7V8X-X supports 2 Banks of PC3200 and four banks of PC2700. To be safe I would just get Asus compatable PC2700.
Yeah, thats what I thought... Well I've got some PC3200 in my main rig so I'll just try those two dimms in my second and see... IF it works then maybe i'll just get some better ram for my main rig... Thanks again
Well, I tried my 2 sticks of PC3200 ram out and they were fine so I think I may upgrade the ram I have in my main rig and use this PC3200 in my second... Can anyone recommend decent PC3700 ram then? I can't really afford OCZ or Corrsair though... What are the alternatives? Also, I'm looking to get a new northbridge cooler. Any suggestions? Same goes for thermal paste... I'm using AS3 atm. Is there anything better? Thanks all...
mmm twinmos twister 3700, Adata ddr450 (tho carp timings) Northbrige wise, what about one of the zalman passive jobbies, only about a tenner now... AS5 is about, but AS3 is fine till you run out....
Cool. You got any urls for decent online shops? I know of ebuyer, OCUK and cpu city - any others? I probably will just carry on using my AS3, but what is the best ATM? Is there much difference between 'em? Cheers mate
