I've got an old system.....currently running on windows XP Pro. it's specs are as such le..... Pentium 3 733MHz @ 1050MHz(30C+- Avg.temp) Abit BE-6,2 ( i think tat's the model,u know wat i'm toking about) Kingmax 512MB PC150 RAM*2 (SDRAM?! ) Western Digital 60GB 5400 RPM (primary) Maxtor 40GB 7200 RPM(secondary) Nvidia GeForce 3 Ultra(dunno wat full model name) Sony 19" monitor and the bla bla bla items tat aren't important.... It's so damnned slow compared to my new rig. Is there anything i can do to improve it's performance? Or should i just reformat and install Linux and make it a server instead? My budget,RM1000=US,250=166 punds.
whip out the motherboard and the ram and the cpu and replace that, you should be able to get a pretty reasonable amount of money for selling them (£50+) and then buy something like a 2500+ and 512mb of ram. may go a bit over budget but not by too much. depeneds on what you get for selling the other stuff really and you may find it speed up a bit is you use the 7200 rpm drive for the primary, windows really likes fast response times and fdeels a whole lot faster on higher rpm drives. a GF3 (or a Ti200 or Ti500) is still a respectable card and can keep up with new games, although not in high-res with everything on. so that is a keeper
okay......but i already have a 1700 and it runs as fast as a 2500+. but i still like this old com,so i think i'll dump this idea first.......thanks neway
I spent around $200 to get my current setup. Asus A7N266 - VM, 1700+ and 256mb DDR266. Oughta do wonders.
