"In summary, a datacentre transformer at theplanet’s Houston datacentre exploded (!). This forced them to shut down all power including the backup generators. They’ve been repairing it ever since but it’s still not up."

That, and the anomalous sub-space mini black hole that the field interference in the quantum data grid suddenly created (no 5D-probability buffers, see?). This sucked down the distribution node and left the grid open for a hostile invasion of entities from the dungeon dimensions. Their universe works on a much faster time base than ours so they hacked the grid in about 300ms and worked out how to use our Beowulf in 500 more --it is a fairly simple "nervous system", after all.

The gold-threaded Neumann protection pentagram we have embedded in the floor of the building was no friggin' use against a disaster of this size. We had to lay down a Lovecraft-Heisenberg protection circuit and ground it to all the servers that were still up, while at the same time isolating the blades that had turned into babbling consciousnesses from the N-d's. Then we had to cut the power from the basement and manually trigger the huge-ass EMP coil we have charged up and ready especially for these occurences. This collapsed the incursion, but it took half our electronics with it. The possessed blades had to be destroyed, of course. Then we had to sweep the premises with a jury-riggged isotopic interference device modded from a vapour chamber, a split laser and a radioactive isotope from an old smoke detector to make sure it was clear, and do all the usual spells and incantations.

Sorry, but it all took a bit of time...

I get the impression the datacenter place had been somewhat economical with the truth re geographic separation of the backup from the prime
    RTFSP. ;)

Nope. Charles Stross: The Atrocity Archives and The Jennifer Morgue. Gives IT support a whole new meaning. :D

But the Nightside novels sound good.

Looks like the forum is gone. I wanted to visit but nothing came of it. Man o man, another great place returns to dust. Sad day, been trying to visit 3 or 4 times in the last 3 months hoping it was coming back. Looks like its gone for good.

    I will miss it.

Hey JK, hows things? The hosting and domain name registration ran out, Pug has been AWOL for a long time and I think the few remaining members were not able to rescue it in time. Slame even offered to host everything for free.

    RIP Wizd.

Nexxo's finest posts often have this effect on humans.

On a side note, it's quite sad that WizD has folded. I wasn't a member there but it looked like a nice little community.

    :(

It is indeed very sad --a finest crowd of hard-core modders I was honoured to be a humble member of. But I barely have got the time for this forum, let alone another...
