So I haven't been keeping up with advances in CPU for a while. Last time I remember AMD had 333 FSB and Intel had 800 FSB. Can someone tell me when AMD got a 1 Ghz FSB?

    Thanks

AMD got a 1 Ghz "FSB" When they introduced the K8 series of CPUs and socket 939. They dont use an explicit Front side bus, but a direct processor/chipset link called Hypertransport. Just for reference, the memory controller is built into the CPU now.

Infact AMD had an 800mhz "FSB" with socket754. 400/333 etc was ages ago with skt A.

754's HTT/LDT link ran at 800MHz DDR for an effective speed of 1.6GHz. The newer 939 version of HyperTransport runs at 1GHz (2GHz DDR). Both these values are affected when overclocking and this is calculated by the FSB-HTT ratio (multiplier), which defaults to 5x on 939 for 2(2x200) = 2GHz DDR HTT :)

The bus can come in 2, 4, 8, 16, or 32-bit flavours (all bidirectional). IIRC, the CPU/NB link uses a 16-bit bus.
