Hey, anyone into making their own music?

Wich program should i get for my 13 year old niece? She likes to plonk around with making ringtones on her mobile and has shown some interest when i've been on the topic...
She is sort of good with computers, i'd have to sit down with her and explain what the stuff on the screen does, but she should get the hang of it quickly. Oh, and there is no keyboard (well, a keyboard but not that cind :duh: ) or anything availible. Everything has to be doable onscreen...
She has a bit of a short fuse, so, it would be nice to have some "half-ready" stuff from the start..

    Thanks, preeshadit ;)

Any 'E-jay' or 'magix music maker' should do her fine!

when she gets good, go for fruity loops

Well Fruity Loops is the only program I know of really, but I hardly think it's easy enough. If she's willing to put some effort into it, she could probably get pretty decent at it though.

Although GarageBand is probably the best n00b-friendly piece of music creation out there. The musical typing feature pwns, but it's only for OS X and has it's limits.

Garageband is okay actually but it's the only program I've tried of this nature.

    Garageband is out, no mac...
Fruity loops looks great, but way too much work to start her off with.
That leaves E-jay and Magix. I'll have to ponder this some more... :sigh:

You gentlemen have been most helpful... ;D

dance ejay is the best and most simple to start off I mean even I found fruity loops difficult but if she can master fruity she can make some club hits and you can cash in :hehe:

I'd say fruity loops to begin with and then cubase, reason, or logic later. I personally use cubase SX, and once you know your way around, it's really nice to use.

Maybe eJay, then FruityLoops and eventually Cubase of some form.

Best to start basic and build up, no use paying hundreds to find she's not that much into it.

Try downloading some demos and see what she feels best with. :thumb:
I hope she makes some killer tunes too :D

garageband is not user friendly whoever sed that, its bloody confusing.

Fruity loops beats all these, and logic platinum 5 i have which is quite good.

From what i gather i'm best of getting eJay/Magix to start with, i'm leaning towards eJay, seems easier.
No demos, this will be a present. If she doesn't like it there's always intarnets. :worried:
I think i'll steer clear of more advanced programs until she gets the hang of something easier.
Logic platinum you say, i'll have a google... I suppose that's advanced too..?

Not very intuitive, but Acid (Sony) is pretty cool.

eJay deffo. I used to use it when I was about 13 and could make tunes with it easily. Forget cubase, a 13 year old kid wont even know what MIDI is, let alone VST's and all that stuff, plus its £99 for SE 3, whereas I'm guessing eJay is about £30?
