Want! Seriously, want. This is the kind of collaborative augmented environment that VE research papers have been talking about for _years_, and it's finally a reality! WANT. I realise that this is basically pipping Apple to the post with what it will inevitably do with its next AppleTV (airPlay and iPad will make for essentially the same system) but it represents a VERY exciting time for entertainment in general. OK, I'm gushing. Thoughts?
We'll see. I would say a minimum for decent gameplay would be 3-5 hours. Since it's not running a hefty CPU (all processing happens on the console itself) and it's quite chunky, I would hope they've put a big battery in there. Presumably there's going to be various tethered options along with a dock charger.
I am really impressive with the PS3 graphics (and perhaps a hint more (difficult to say due to SD streaming quality that was watching... will be waiting for official HD videos)) And Nintendo has full third party support.. awesome! Now they need exclusive games, and voila. When I buy a console, it's because i seek something different from the PC. What's the point of buying a console, where I can have the same controller setup on the PC, plus have the option for keyboard/mouse, where the games are the same, minus some exclusive games I can live without. I think this is great experience. And I would not worry about the price, if anything Nintendo will lose money on every console sold, and make it back from the games. Like PS3 and XBox 360 (well now make money). Or from the online service fees. What I am interested.. but perhaps prematurely, is that on stage EA said about enhanced full online experience. Maybe now it will be close to XBox Live online system or Soniy's PS3.
I agree that Nintendo will likely go in at a reasonable price point, but I think the price will play a big factor in how well this new console does. But is it just me or does this look no different to a PS3 + PS vita, part of why price will be a major factor. Obviously Nintendo will never start with a price of 450+ (PS3 at 200 and a non 3G NGP at 250), but solely on a concept front I saw little differences. Devs had already experimented with the duality of PS3 with PSP, F1 had the PSP screen as a rear view mirror though that never made it to the final game and the PSP could be used as an additional controller. That all said, Nintendo bringing this all as a package should make devs more interested in progrqamming for this sort of set-up. Hopefully the non-Nintendo exclusive will be ported to PS3 for use with the NGP, that might make me interested in getting one. By the way I am not deliberately trying to rain on anyones parade or anything, but Sony gets a crap load of grief, occasionally justified, and I felt their innovation should be given its credit.
