For anyone who hasn't/doesn't read the Marmite thread here is a quick summation of what's noticeably different... if there are other changes they're under the hood or so minor I've not noticed them...

I like to wait for most common issue to be solved i.e. Service Pack 1 before I upgrade, especially if its not needed for what hardware or games I use.

There's an enterprise mode (nee compatibility mode, I guess?) that's supposed to make ie11 able to run legacy html, from what I can gather. There's a tickbox tweak that shrinks the icons to fit on the All Apps mui screen from the looks of it.

I must admit, I like the idea of the taskbar being available in any app. App swapping should be easier and the ability to quickly check the time and date is very handy.

Does anyone know how to get the new start menu running when you click on start in desktop mode ? Whenever I click it it just takes me to the tiles thing.

Typical Microsoft ! I'll need to go and install another start menu program now, since I deleted my last one believing it was included in the 400Mb+ update !

    Not really Microsoft's fault though.

I can't believe I need to modify my PC in order to stop it from booting to the desktop all of a sudden! :miffed:

Totally boycotting Windows 8.1 Update until Micros($)oft fix that.

There's a setting somewhere - you can choose whether to boot to desktop, or not.

    edit:

Classic shell. Itadds a start mmenu and boots to desktop automatically. The company I work for ships it as standardwith all new laptops and desktops. Just unchexk explorer etc on install.

Does it give me back my precious Metro Start Screen on boot though?...

    :thumb:

I'm sorry. Please forgive my clumsy attempts at satire.

I do know it's a simple toggle, and despite what it said in the article updating didn't actually change my setting.
It still showed the Start Screen on login rather than the desktop, which (joking aside) is what I want.

I like the new "all apps" layout. Much clearer.
I do think it's a bit of a sad indictment of users more than anything that they felt the need to add a viable search button though. Press start and type!

Still, definitely an improvement. Good old Mi€£o$oft :)

this is part of the problem, instead of spending a little time with the customer and showing them how to use windows 8, install bloatware and make it look like old

Your opinion, not our customers'. I won't get into another discussion about what is or isn't better. Plus they are shown before purchase both options.
