Dell Inspiron 6400 Laptop with Windows XP Pro. It has a BSOD within a few minutes of use when on the mains. If running on battery it never has a problem. Bluescreenview shows various different programs to be at fault. It was getting BSOD after only a few minutes of use, I updated the bios and some device drivers and now it randomly restarts without the BSOD. Diagnostic hardware test built into the bios menu passed ok running on battery and again passed when plugged in. Im going to try and update all device drivers, but I cant help thinking its a hardware problem if the mains adapter affects it? The mains adapter and the battery are both genuine Dell and have recently been replaced to try and cure the problem. I may try reinstalling windows if the problem continues.

If anyone has further insight into the problem that would be a great help, thanks!

try cleaning out hsf, it may be that as it's on battery, the cpu isn't getting hot enough to cause bsod.
