I had my operation today to take out both sides of my lower wisdom teeth due to them being impacted. I was given an IV that knocked me out without warning. One moment I was staring at the ceiling, joking with the specialist, and then the next moment I had my head turned towards the right and the specialist stating I was done. It was literally in a blink of an eye - no sensation of going to sleep or even waking up. Pretty "painless" process. According to the assistant, the specialist was talking to me while I was knocked out. I never heard or recalled a word of it. The operation took about 30 minutes total from knockout to wakeup. I feel fine, for now, with two holes in my gums. I ate three cups of yogurt today and am currently having a strange craving for pizza, chips, and fried foods. http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a347/Xiachunyi/WisdomTeeth.jpg
Ouch. The first time I went to a dentist for a while and he pulled two impacted wisdom teeth out and sent me on my way to hospital to have another two impacted wisdom teeth out and a tooth out of my gum that hadn't come up. The first was a local anaesthetic, the latter was general, thankfully! I can remember climbing on the bed, then waking up to an aching, blood-filled mouth. Joy.
I should be having my wisdom teeth out sometime in the next year or so since it's starting to annoy my and sometimes it rubs into the sides of the mouth... I don't like the dentist anymore for some reason. I was fine as a kid!
It can't have been a proper wisdom tooth extraction unless you've got a shoe-shaped bruise on your chest
Had my wisdom teeth out, best operation ever. Local, with a dodgy woman stanging over me with a pair of "medical" pliers and a bloody, dripping tooth. Root and all.... No pain before, during or after.
all four done with local, as i had to drive myself to and from. what really sucked was that one of them had grown it's roots into my sinus cavity, so they did a little ad-hoc suturing to close it up. one of the other roots on the same tooth broke off, and they had to go digging for it . the dental assistants thought i was loopy from the drugs because i was smailing and giggling after the procedure ( i was just so happy to have those monsters out of my mouth. all the pressure, all the pain.. gone!). i think i did have that shoe shaped bruise....
I lived through the night. The area where my teeth were is still bleeding a litle bit and I have this taste of iron (blood) in my mouth with increased saliva production. This is to be expected for the first 24 hours. Need to go get my penicillin and mouth wash later today though. There is no shoehorn bruise anywhere on my chest. I do however have three imprimpts of where they utilized an ECG machine when I was knocked out. I will have to retrieve those pads - they intrigue me. Thanks Bindibadgi for spot editing - I should have thought to provide a linky for the more sensitive types.
I might be able to pluck up the courage one day to goto my dentist again I aint been since I was 14... and im 18 now I have such a phobia of that place I even hate walking past it.. Also I have a fear of waking up or the drugs not working..
*Time to throw the proverbial cards on the table* Well, I think I've got everyone beat... I've had wisdom teeth removal surgery... TWICE. The first time - removed FIVE wisdom teeth, as well as TWO other random teeth (around my incisors). Second time - four years later - TWO MORE wisdom teeth removed. *Looks around in a challenging manner* YOU WANNA GO?! WHO WANTS A PIECE?!
Good God bacon, do you have any teeth left?!?! When did they start calling your front teeth wisdom teeth? FIVE at a time? You must have felt like they took half of your jaw out.
i might have to have my wisdoms out if they start giving me jip, although they are well behaved atm. I have however just come off the Anti-bio's for the dentist after having one of my front teeth effectivly "bolted" together. its strange having a one inch long titanium/nickle bar in your face lol
I had to have 4 teeth out a couple of years ago and I opted for going to hospital and doing it by injection. I remember going in there, sitting down and I was really bricking it; the Dr gave me ~5 injections in my mouth then the next thing I remember was him telling me I could relax my mouth - it was all done and I'd become so relaxed that my jaws were biting together and his finger was stuck I vaguely remember having it done but it just felt like I was really wasted...
They give you the gas that makes you feel like your skeleton is spinning around inside your skin? I have to have that whenever i go for dental work because im needle phobic, but the idea is, they get me high, make me look away and stick a needle in my gum. Works wonders. Love that gas.
Bacon a friend of mine had the same thing happen.... only 6 months apart. they pulled 5 the first day and two 6 months later. she had 3 on the top right one in the lower left and right and 2 in the top left.... she was a bit of a bitch afterwords... tried to drive while on the pain meds.
