    Hi People

I've recently been experimenting with a wordpress site that I've set up in order to learn a little.. I even started a small blog but after 1 particular post about SEO it seems to be attracting a lot of spam comments.

Now, i know that i can turn comments off but my question is:

How the heck are them spammers even finding the site?

It certainly doesn't do well in search at the moment and i may not even continue with it, it's just for fun

The post is indexed by Google or any search engine by the tags you give it. Those tags are then searched for by other people and your post comes up.

There should be an option to not allow the site to be indexed by search engines. If you're just testing that should help.

I personally use disqus for my site, the need for login is the first line of defense, and then you still can use akismet or other technologies :

I would try and see if there are any plugins to stop the spam

+1 for Akismet, had it on all WP sites I run (~7 at present) and had minimal spam ever since. Some do slip through but it's one spam comment in about 50,000 caught :)
