In all seriousness, vice, hammer and piece of wood.

Not kidding, and it isn't second best - it seems to have become the in-favour method.

So, after reseating the heatsink, I'm not sure I'll bother de-lidding after all.

There's not an improvement on the temps so much...

But even on a warm day like today, the fans are completely inaudible. Previously when running full CPU load here was definitely a noticeable drone.

In a previous life, I'd be very upset about temps approaching 90c, but getting them down further has no material benefit, so quite happy the way it is. And anything which means I don't have to take a vice and hammer to my CPU is a bonus :D

I'm guessing the thermal profile on it is very lax till about 5 degrees before throttle territory. The profile in this Dell optiplex 7010 over a i7 3770 is the same.

    Id still delid it :p

There are 5 thermal profile settings and it's on the lowest, which as you suggest is just enough to prevent components from cooking themselves. The GPU is even passive at idle.

I see no reason anyone would ever select anything but the lowest setting really.

You de-lid first, and then I'll think about it :D
