It doesn't look like Haswell is going to have much over Ivy Bridge, so is it worth waiting for? I'm thinking it probably is only because it's a couple months away, but I wanted to know what you all thought.
Yeah I saw that linustechtips has already got some so I know it's not going to be too long before we see something.
I'd be tempted if I was upgrading from 1366 to wait, if only because intel might not have scrimped on the IHS solder this time. Much more interested in the 6 and 8 core versions though.
Similar clock speeds, similar TDP, similar architecture, is that right? Tri-gate might bring significant IPC inprovements though. I'd probably wait in your shoes. If the IHS issues are sorted too it'll be a nice improvement over Ivy.
I would wait and pick up a bargain sandybridge or ivybridge from the market place. There is bound to be people upgrading when the Haswell comes out.
If its any cop, and things are sorted with the IHS, then I will be jumping on it too. More PCI-E lanes I say!
Really? Did anyone upgrade from Sandy to Ivy? Suppose some may have gone from 2500K to 3770K but not many.
I went from a 2500K to a 3770 (non-K), it provided a bit of a speed boost in terms of raw clocks and performance, plus HyperThreading. I'll probably sit the next socket out, only looking at a new GPU.
I'm not expecting a mass exodus but there's always people who will look to upgrade to stay cutting edge. I think it's worth keeping your eyes open for a bargain.
There is a leak (will edit post when I find it) suggesting ivy bridge e as an interim while they develop haswell e with ddr4 support. Does the new ram mean a new cpu socket or not? Edit: My sources; http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/Intel-Haswell-Specs-Ivy-Bridge-E-Extreme-Leak,news-43297.html http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/Haswell-E-DDR4-Ivy-Bridge,news-43507.html
In which case ivy-e will be the last chips on lga 2011 socket . Why can't Intel be like amd and stick with one socket rather than change when they are in the mood.
