Windows Xp and 98 Multiboot probs. Boot.ini expert needed!!

Hi, Basically have XP as main os on primary HD primary. This HD is partitioned into two halves.

Have windows 98 installed in secondary HD with single partition.

Ok i know the boot.ini can be used to multiboot. Have used it to multi NT based OS's. Although I can find may examples of boot.ini files on the web and ms site, nowhere is there a list of definitions in which each part is spelled out.

Am I trying to do what cant be done, is there a nice 3rd party prog that does the job? Something very configurable!

current boot.ini...

I tried this as the 98 section but it didnt work.
multi(0)disk(2)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows 98SE"

The numbers in brackets are hard to figure out

the easy way is to install 98se first then install xp ontop of that and it will do it all for you....thats the easy way....im sure if you tried long enough youd be able to fiddle it somehow...

 

In Windows XP, you can use MSCONFIG and BOOTCFG to configure your BOOT.INI

Try this in your boot.ini:

I think my mate has PM7 i'll pick it up from him. I didnt want to use a 3rd party app unless i had too. But long term I might just have to re-format and do it properly.

It should be like this remember your HDD 1 is classed as 0 so HDD 2 is classed as 1

multi(0)disk(1)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows 98SE"
