I've just upgraded my mobile to one of the new Windows Phone 7 devices, the HTC Mozart to be exact. I've used my previous mobile phones as mp3 players for quite a few years now. My previous LG Arena could hold 24GB of music when I installed a 16GB mecroSD card, however the Mozart only comes with 8GB of internal memory for Music, Apps etc. without any way of upgrading (well unless I take my phone to pieces and replace the internal microSD card, which I may do at some stage). Is there a way that I can tell Zune to automatically sync a random selection of music onto my phone, which could then be changed every week or so, so I don't get bored of the content? I'm not particularily keen on the thought of manually selecting all the songs to be synced, which would need to be done quite often. I'm pretty sure I'd just get bored of doing it that way, and ultimately get bored with the limited selection of music on the phone. The way I'm currently trying is to create an autoplaylist, selecing the bands I'd like to sync, and setting an 800 song limit, which should roughly equate to 5GB or thereabouts. I could then refresh the playlist every week, which would theoretically compile a fresh random 800 song selection which would be automatically synced with my phone. However the autoplaylist that has been created isn't really what I was expecting. It seems to have just taken the first 800 songs from the bands at the beginning of the alphabet. I was expecting a few random songs from each artist specified. In the playlist option, I've asked it to randomise the songs. Am I doing something wrong, or missing an obvious setting? Or is there a better way to do what I'm trying? Is there some other program that could fulfill this purpose if I unlocked my phone so windows sees the phone as a removable storage device? Thanks in advance.
The SmartDJ system is what you're after in Zune, mate. To change the loadout, simply start the SmartDJ with a new album or artist. http://www.zune.net/en-US/products/learningcenter/zunesoftware/features/smartdj.htm
Ah, that could work quite well. I can fit around eight SmartDJ playlists on my phone, that can be updated on a weekly basis. The only problem I can see is that I may end up with duplicate songs when I've gotta create 8 SmartDJ playlists (100 song limit to each SmartDJ playlist). If the SmartDJ system doesn't cross genres though, I should be able to make one playlist for each of the majour genres in my library. Thanks for the tip Ph4lanx. Another idea that's just cropped into my head is using a different program to create the playlist, and simply use the zune software to read the playlist and sync the music to my phone.
