OMG,it can beat 2 crossfire 4890?awesome ability. How about the graphic card dimension?I am just wondering.
US + CAN retailers usually have a 7-day refund/ 30-day replacement policy. After that consult manufacturers warranty.
FML. Yes its only good for replacement only now. Is Crossfire 4890s still good? I feel so out dated... Well I guess this will last me and see what Nvidia has to offer.
how does this Eyefinity technology work... i mean, i know it is used through DisplayPort. but the majority of monitors don't come with that connection. can the technology be used through adapters? ie. DisplayPort to DVI/HDMI. lxrysprtmscl
Eyefinity is the name of the technology, that was proposed by Matrox years ago. The HDMI and DisplayPort years after made possible the adoption of the idea. The Surround Gaming team later left Matrox and was incorporated in ATI. Every graphic card in the family should support at least three displays, with the range going up till six independent display pipelines are possible, offering you a capability to connect anywhere from one to six displays. Each display pipeline is an actual output for an independent image!! The software side of the thing was the most daunting task in comparison to the hardware solution. Eyefinity driver inserts these new resolutions inside the games; even a number of 7 year old games runs smoothly.
wasn't what i was looking for... though that did better explain the technology to me. thank you. what i was trying to get at is... will the technology still work through adapters? ie. DisplayPort to DVI/HDMI. lxrysprtmscl
Yes, it will work through adapters. There are six DisplayPorts on the rear of the card, and you will use DP to DVI, VGA, or maybe even HDMI adapters. My guess is that the card manufactures will include one of each adapter, and you will have to purchase the others. The "normal" HD5870s will have 2x DVI and 1x HDMI.
I read somewhere that that they were 6 mini-dvi, I thought that didn't make sense as having 6 mini-displayports makes more sense because going from DP to DVI can be done passively and not the other way around. Forgot what I came here to post 5850 - 25cm, same size as 4870 5870 - ~27cm, same size as 4870 x2
No, it uses DP. http://www.bit-tech.net/news/hardware/2009/09/11/amd-announces-six-monitor-card/1 I wouldn't make sense to use mini DVI as the connector is slightly bigger, and DP is the new standard. Apple was the only company to use mini DVI, and they recently dropped it from their laptops and replaced it with miniDP.
