27" is normally the same real world res as a 24",and the above poster states it would be over kill but I disagree as it is a totally different level in dx support which IS a big factor? Right? rb
We'll need to wait for the Catalyst drivers to catch up. I remember when the 4870 first came out and performance was a bit **** until the drivers got sorted out. Happens all the time with ATI.
Then it's obvious the previous bench marks have been fabricated to make the crd look good OR the res has been that low that the cards brute force has forced the frames so high. I seem to remember the 4870 being exceptionally fast at low res but dropping steeply as the res increased. Nvidia may be slower at lower res but at higher res with low AA they seem to be much better. It's only wen lots of AA is applied that nvidia crd seem to get hit, ati cards hpweer appear to not be affected as much and the benchmarks would indicate this too. Andy
I'll still wait for Nvidia cards to come out. Looking at the benchies tho, I dont need a new card. I've got a 24" screen and my GTX280 @ 750:2650:1650 is faster than a factory oc'd gtx285 which get 50+ fps on all the games listed at 24" tft. I've got upgardes soon. i7 end of next month. Once that up an done, I'll have my current cpu/mobo/ram to flog, in December, bang a £100 xmas cash on it and I can get a 5870 or chuck in a HD sand build a PC for ebay, might have got a discounted win7 by then. Oh well, make my decision December-ish.
has anyone mentioned the fact that every R5000 series GPU has full PAP and will bitstream HD audio codecs? this is epic win!
Yikes that thing is a monster. Wont be getting that in if you have a small case. Giant e-peen Cheesecake
looks like it will kick nvidias ass, but who knows, we will have to wait for nvidia to bring there new graphic cards out is it as good as we thought ?????????? http://www.techradar.com/reviews/pc...ds/amd-radeon-hd-5870-636530/review?artc_pg=1
We gotta give the 5870 some credit (tho not fulfilling out expectations) it does beat the dual GPUs in a lot of games and its a single GPU.
