That's because for Bavaria, it's a strange and exiting taste.
Bavarian beers tend to be sweeter, not unlike Czech beers.
Compared to that Becks is refreshing.
Compared to other northern German (and I suppose danish) beers, Becks doesn't stand out.

That might just be the explanation, we were a group of Danes who lived in Germany that year, and none of us (20+ people) liked becks.

I thought it was for the taste... A bottle of Corona with lime is one of the few beers I'll drink willingly.

I really like Tuborg, it is a very refreshing drink. At the moment Morrisons has a case of 15 (250ml) bottles for £9.

    EDIT/

Was in Morrisons today and you can pick up 2 cases for £14.

Avoid [Newcastle] Brown Ale, it looks like you're drinking the Tyne, and drinking the Tyne would taste better...

Beer isn't a favourite, but I quite liked the strong taste of Leffe when I had it at a bar.

My local brewery has some really, really good beers:

I enjoy the Knockendoch and Galloway Gold one's especially.

And yes you can get them in Tesco's etc round here :)

Also on draught in many pubs

Domestics, I'd say Coors Light if I'm up for cheap drinking or Yuengling.

For imports, my tops are Guinness, Efes, Killians and/or a tasty Bitburger.

    It's awesome.

Good call on 'Negra Modelo', although I have'nt found it on sale in the uk.

Currently in the fridge I've got :
    • Greene King IPA
    • Speckeld Hen (coincidently also owned by the Greene King)
    • Old Peculiar (yum yum)
    • Asahi (for pasta/pizza nights)

I'm also partial to John Smiths & Tetleys :)

Adnams Explorer or Gunhill depending on what i am eatting, because when the bottles are flowing i am generally at home with a dirty take-away. Indian, its kingfisher as its a little lighter than Cobra which enables it to find a balance between any curry dish.

I am a huge green king IPA drinker, but backed off it due to boredom of its consumption.

I don't really enjoy larger all that much due to the gas build up just gives me stomach ache, i can handle 6 pints of Adnams broadside (6.3% abv) down the pub and feel fine with the exception of the 6 pint buz, but something like fosters (4% abv) after 3 pints, my stomach knots up and i just feel ill rather than anything else, possibly due my stomach acting like a coke bottle that's just been throw in a washing machine for an hour!

Leffe Brune for me, I don't know a lot of people that really like it though.

one sniff of a damp beer mat and I am rendered useless, so I tend not to drink in the house, its more a social event for me, drinking that is. Well I say sociable, I can't usually remember past five pints anyhow lol I think I am sociable .. people still talk to me the next time i go in the pub lol

In the West, I tend to get Guinness, Newcastle Brown Ale, Haywire Hefeweizen, Stella Artois (girly but goes well with food and the ladies appreciate it if there's a six-pack of Stella in the fridge).

I sometimes get a Sam Adams or Sapporo to mix things up but I don't buy them with any regularity.

I actually prefer the Kingfisher they sell in the US/EU (anywhere outside India, basically) because there's a definite difference in taste compared to the stuff I get back home (India).

I no longer drink beer in India because they all contain some muck to stop them spoiling in the heat which then makes them taste weird and gives me the runs. This was explained to me late on a Saturday morning by my dad. He just pats me on the back and says "This is why I drink whiskey."

The only place in India to get good beer is Goa. Plenty of local brews along with Kingfisher Draught which is canned without any of the sweet rubbish that goes in the other beers.

I can empathize. Similar problem here but I've yet to identify exactly which beer makes me uncomfortable. At least none of the ones I've listed do, so maybe it's just the stuff they serve at parties (Miller, Bud, Coors and so on).

Looks like I've gone a little OT, sorry.

Leffe has to be one of the worst "traditional" Belgian beers under production. Vile stuff considering the widely available alternatives. You mention Chimay blue - how you don't rate that higher, I will never know.
