I think the decision has already been made, and that they're just dragging it out to ensure people keep talking about it and by extension Mercedes.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/formula1/38371269 Mclaren going whole hog in removing any trace of the the Ron regime. I wonder if anyone is safe?
The Venezuelan economy has collapsed, PDVSA is ostensibly bankrupt and his parent's buddy Mr Chavez has been dead three and a half years now, a better question would be can he bring any money at all?
Grosjean sorted himself out, maybe Maldontardo has too Haven't teams learnt that becoming training grounds for the big boys spawn is better than hiring rich kids whos only victory came in the genetic lottery
Dunno... worked out ok for Rosberg... Verstappen... Hill... Sainz [ish]... Less so Piquet and Senna... ... or are you on about the 'i'm only here because daddy's loaded...' genetic lottery, Max Chilton and the like [and possibly Stroll]
the second one. I dont mind loosing the genetic lottery to someone like Verstappen or Sainz etc who go on to use their secret sauce the way its meant to be. You could argue Hamilton won that lottery too. Just because the likes of Chilton can buy a drum stick doesn't make them a drummer, especially if they can't keep time. They've had their fun in high school but should leave the live performance in Rio to Nicko McBrain.
So, the Beeb reckon Bottas to Merc is a done deal, with Massa not reaching for his pipe and slippers just yet and staying on for another year [at least]. Source
If true, it realy puts a dampener on the new season even before it starts. Bottas, while decent, will not challange Hamilton. And Massa is a backwards step, post accident he was never the same driver. I really think there are better options for them.
Maybe those 'better options' said 'no'... Get the feeling Merc and by extension Williams are making do until 2018 when the 'better options' become available.
Sky F1 news is also claiming Massa is returning and that Pat Symonds is out at the end of the month, to make way for Paddy.
No need to speculate about Symonds leaving as Williams have confirmed it themselves... I think there'll be some headwear eating if his replacement isn't Paddy Lowe
We shall see what contract Bottas gets, if it is him, 2 years means they are going to see what the driver market looks like. If Merc are dominant Bottas is designated number 2 Hamilton gets 2 free titles. If they are not dominant Bottas could struggle to deliver the results needed for even constructors challenge. Still think Button on a 1 year deal is a better bet.
