Case Mod - In Progress BORG COSMOS II - Reboot: Borg Cube Panel Part 01

Sander is EXTREMELY busy setting up and working on his company ModWithMe.
I have seen parts and he really wants to finish the log. But I think he won't be updating very soon.

 

Aaaaaah okay.... just saw this under my subscription list as I was cleaning out some completed builds, etc.

Really amped to see how this turns out, but all the best with his new company!

 

BORG COSMOS II REBOOT !!!

BORG COSMOS II REBOOT !!!

Now that setting up my new company ModWithMe is almost completed (70m2 workspace with 120x90 laser cutter, 60x40 CNC, Sandblast and Paintbooth and 4 fully equipped workbenches for modders to come and do their work) I have decided that next to the 4 customer builds going on, I needed to redo the BORG COSMOS II as i really wanted to do it but lacked the skillset and machinery to do it.

So what will I be doing in the next few weeks.

I will be redoing the front grill as shown here :


I will be redoing all the internal aluminum work as shown here :


I will be redoing the radgrills as shown here :


I will be remaking the SSD tray as shown here :


I will redo all the lighting inside the front grill as shown here :


I have made a new design for the top grill inside the case as shown here :


I will redo all the black tubing covers as shown here :


Because I ran out of cube materials and I cannot get new, I have decided to make a whole new panel as shown here:


I have made a new PCIE connector design that uses UV green plaxi and the aluminum tubing!



So thats enough about what has been done, now lets focus on what i am doing right now !

I got an old COSMOS II frame from Coolermaster Benelux, thansk guys !


First order of Business, create some new fan/rad grills

Needs more sanding and a good paintjob and some UV green plexi but more on that soon.

The first layer of the SSD tray is also done. In total there will be 3 layers!


Almost a shame to paint it black in afew days ..

That was it for the first update of the reboot. Sorry it has taken so long but ModWithMe is costing me a lot of energy to make sure I can pay my mortgage with it !

Small update time
Made the UV reactive plexi inside layer for the radgrill



My rads have a really nice wide frame so I can just fit the ledstrips underneath them!


The picture does not do it full justice, IRL its more green!

 

You jammy fit, fitting those LEDs in that lil gap. Nice touch man and good to see this up and worked on again

Looks like my chair will be at the Auxiliary Processor of Trimatrix 401. I hope they get good reception there - little borgs need updates too!

 

Now the front grill is almost complete (just need to spraypaint or powdercoat it once all the alu work has been done) Its time to focus the attention to the borg cube panel.

Just because you have access to flowjets, lasers and cnc's doesnt mean you have to do every job with it! Some good oldfashioned elbow grease used here!




The old panel looked like this, with a lot of odd shapes and holes.


I cleaned that up a bit and made it more structured.

*Please note that this is just a layed out design, it hasnt been glued yet so its seems a bit unsolid

There will be 3 fans pushing the air out of the case in teh bottom panel now.


The top half has a big fan assembly that is inspired by the Borg Queen sphere escape hatch here in the top left picture.


People like to send me all there old modding stuff they dont use anymore.
I got this fan and i must say its the worst example of fan manufacturing I have ever seen.
Look at the difference in mounting holes if you want the motorstruts to be perfectly 90 degree angled with the plate.


This time I used the CNC and modelled the fan in 3D to have it perfectly cut!


Kinda looks cool with the ledstrip and a cut piece of UV Plexi behind it.
I was gonna paint the fanblades black, but after seeing this I dont know anymore.
Would love to hear some thoughts on this !


That was it for this update, getting 24 meters of PVC rods in next week that i have to cut up in cubes for the detailing.
