Well, tonight the addage, measure twice, cut once saved the day.

I made a template of foam board for the Mahogany backplane.

Then made the slot for the devices...

After I figured out I put i in backwards it was a quick fix...

Or so I thought... It was a little more challenging and I used the other corner to get it right.

Then it was on to the slots for the "accessories"...

    Fit snug...

Here are the layout lines for the backplane.

This is the housing for the case fan in the bottom.

Its a bit late and I don't feel like making a mistake on the back plane. Still have to measure for the fans and the PSU.

    Hope you enjoy!

Well, a month since the last post and we have made some progress...

Here is the back plane, with layout lines and tape on the back.

Here is the first of many cut outs.

Added some thickness for the cards.

Here are the holes for the fan screws.

Here is the first hole for one of the fans...

    Second fan...

Here, I've cut out the hole for the PSU and applied the first coat of finish.

    Thanks...

It has about 12 layers of shellac. I started with 3 layers of a 1lb cut and then 7 layers of a 2 lb cut and then finished it off with 2 layers of a 1 lb cut. Then applied paste wax and buffed it out.

Wasn't that bad, I laid out all the pieces and them gave them a thin coat. By the time I completed the circuit, the first one was dry. Then another coat, then some sanding, then another 2 coats, then some sanding, then 2 coats and more sanding... ok you get the picture. It did take a while to put them on.

I used blonde shellac in the 1 lb cut, then switched to an amber in the 2lb cut. I tried not to over color the holly stringing.

Well, started on the inside panel this week.

Here are some of the components: Power and Reset switches, 42 in 1 card reader...

I resawed some Tiger Maple to make a veneer for the 42 in 1 card reader. Then glued it to the face.

Here it is without the clamps.

Now to carefully cut the holes/slots and finish it with shellac.
