    Front Face

Started working on the front face tonight...

I cut the 3/4in stock to 5/8in strips and then ran them through the planer to 1/4in.

    Here is the planed strip
    [IMG]

Then I started shaping each piece. Until I had this

This is what it looks like mounted.

    Here is a tool shot.

    Thanks... :)

I was thinking of staining the walnut, what do you you think?

I'll probably cut the holes for the power, reset button on the top. Then cut the hole for the DVD in the front, just above the wood on the left. The space is 6x6 in and will easily fit a dvd tray.

Try Linseed oil, it should have a nice stain without obscuring the grain.

Great idea... I think I have some in the back of the cabinet. I'll have to check.

    Thanks...

Or, for a little lighter look, tung oil. Since you were thinking of staining, linseed will probably be better, just throwing out the other idea just as an alternative.

Tung oil would be lighter and is a good idea, but I think I want more contrast between the gold leaf and the frame... the cutouts in the stiles are going to be gold leafed as well.

BTW, I like your waterplant. I think it is very original.

I tried my hand with Silver Leaf...

Not sure if it is going to work out. I used MDF board as the back, instead of plexiglass, it seems to turn out much smoother without having to work it much.

Here is a shot of the access panel on the left.

I went to Home Depot and saw the knob and thought I could incorporate it.

Here is another shot of the grill work for the front.

This is turning out very nicely. I especially like the work you are doing on the panels with the wood. Great job.

Well I tried my hand at gold leafing today.

I decided to gold leaf the top of the computer. It will house the power and reset switches, so there wasn't much critical if I had to re do it.

    Here is the setup

I applied 2 thin layers of adhesive.

    First 2 pieces down...

Here it is with all the pieces "smoothed" out...

I think it still has that weathered look... Don't think I'll be able to make it mirror like.

I sprayed it with sealer and now have to let it dry... we see how the results are tomorrow.
