Running Stats: CustomPC is 2nd in the team for production (weekly) 24th overall for weekly production 27th for last 24 hours 6th for 'Today'
Have literally spent ALL afternoon and evening ripping apart, rebuilding and overclocking 4 of my rigs today!! I'm calling it a day now as my eyes feel like they have weights strapped to them but tomorrow I should be good for moving 70,000 ppd over and then on Monday when I get into work I got 2 new rigs to fire up which should add another 30,000-ish ppd so all in all I should be able to push a good 100,000+ ppd assuming everything goes to plan lol My i7 rigs seem to be hitting 75 degrees at the moment though since I turned Hyper Threading back on (was hitting 68 max before) so need to do something about that as its way too close to 80 degrees for my liking...
I have a celeron 2.4 and a celeron 900 system (plus a spare 462 mb that needs a cpu and a couple old k6 boards) if we need em. Just gotta build them and make em as quiet as poss so i can run them 24/7. Probably not even worth 1000 points each as they're all IGP setups with no PCI-e/agp slots
Just changed over 1 gtx 285 so now in all 1 9800gt ,1 gtx 285 and 4 vmware clients any one added them all up yet wonder what the total cost of the hardware would be to get this many ppd
Where has who with the what now? EDIT: Ah, see who you mean now. Do they actually not know the guy who is 7th on their team? Hmm... sounds like another barnettworks to me
They have a thread about him on their forum, says something about him turning up for 6 weeks previously then vanishing.
That it does. Quite the number of them too by the looks of it. Not quite barnettworks territory but enough to make any of our top producers look like amateurs I so badly want a rack full of blades
I used to have 2 bladecentres full of them, although they were all running windows & were mission critical so folding wasn't allowed on them. Not cheap but you can fit 4 centres in a rack easily with 16 blades in each
I'm not kidding if I could afford just one bladecenter I would buy it, fill it (probably 16 Xeon blades) and worry about the cost of running it afterwards. They're just so full of raw computing power.
Base cost would be around £30k with 4x kettle leads needed to power it, would draw around 10kw at full load but then you'd need to add the extra processors & RAM + HDD's etc
Oh and blade centres ARE NOT QUIET in the slightest! We have 6 IBM and 8 HP blade chassis's in our data centre and boy do they chuck out some noise and heat, awesome units though, loads of processing power for such a compact set up and when connected to a SAN you got bags of storage too
Blades are the future for our server needs, we just got a dual quad core storage server set up this last week and its very nice indeed. But its summer hols so very little of our kit is up and running for folding at the moment, waiting to see about 30 new quad core desktops for september so hopefully will see an increase then. Until then though our production is going to be well down.
May do tomorrow, can only do it under the school name though, so not much use to this challenge you lot have set yourselves!
