I use it quite a lot - have some good discussions on there and also find it useful for keeping up with sites like Digg/Slashdot/TechMeme. A good headline drags me in further. http://www.twitter.com/timsmalley
avid fan, went to a twitter meet up and made some good contacts. all in all... www.twitter.com/mikefethers
ok so I just started to follow all here Now please follow me so I doesn't become one of those that follows like a gazillion people and have like 2 following them
I've tried, I really have, but I find even interesting people doing interesting things quite dull in twitter form.
same here -- plus i make myself feel even more boring when i write every inane little thing i'm doing. i can see the attraction people have to it but... eh, it's not for me.
Please tell me that was intentional. I really do not see the attraction of twitter. It seems everyone lives their lives out on the interwebs now. I sort of get the idea of a blog to be used as a project log for something, but not a personal one about your everyday life. No one is that interesting. It is all very strange to me, perhaps I am a much more introverted person when it comes to my day, I will happily tell my friends in person or on the phone, but the idea of every little thing about my day being available to all is a bit odd. I am not opposed to socialising or making new friends, but this to me just seems like you say what you did, and read what others did. Doesn't seem like any sort of socialising I want to do. The end.
I don't see the point in it really, If my friends want to know what I am up to, all they have to do is pick up the phone! Also not sure if want random strangers to know what I am doing everyminute of everyday... I like my privacy!
@m0o0oeh And I shall naturally be adding those of the bit tech fraternity so far to my twitter. Already added Firehed, Hex, RTT, Tim, Bindi and Wil Harris. As well as Stephen Fry, Leo Laporte, Robert Llewelyn and the webcomicist Jeph Jacques of Questionable Content fame to name but most of my friends list. Joe.
I don't. I really can't see the point. If someone is interested in what I'm doing all they have to do is send me a e-mail, talk to me on msn, call me, stop by or send me a text. Judging from the amount of the mentioned incoming communication i draw the conclusion that nobody is interested, and nobody care. It looks as it's just as useful as a blog. In other words, it's a waste of precious storage space. The other day I saw a news article in a national newspaper based on information from twitter (Gmail went down for a couple of hours). What have the wold come to?!
Twitter is as useless as balls on a priest. I would rather watch paint dry than read about some basement dwellers life.
Well I don't use twitter to tell everybody about my life, I think that's is the wrong way to use it. I think it´s wonderful to see when for example bit-tech has a new article is pops up in my twitter app and I just have to push the link, it´s excellent. It´s great to get news quick. For example I read about news stations getting mad about news getting out quicker than they can report it, this time it was about a plane crash that a person just happened to drive by, took a picture with his phone and put it on twitter all before the stations got out there or even got the news, that's great.
Actually, this could become problematic in some cases. Official media have quality control to some degree. News distributed trough twitter could in many cases be a rumor that evolve into something big. It could also be a bad thing in news about criminal activity. The police can stop certain aspects of the news. They can't control it the same way when it's distributed trough twitter or other channels.
All true, but then again not everything in the news it true ether but I still believe "real" news more. Anyway the news have to change there way to report if they want to be first.
Sure, but as I said, in "some cases" quick news isn't necessarily a good thing. Written media will always be a relatively slow medium. News are usually out faster on the radio than it is in newspapers (online). Writing an article will take some time.
