I don't know..... If you're one of those touchy guys when on the john, it'd suck, the odor builds up when they flush and some other person touches it and takes a big whiff.

I wouldn't be so sure of that, they're also pretty popular in the UK. Especially around traffic lights.

 

You can see them in most cities in Texas, too.

 

Even Australia, they are meant to be a non slip precaution for pedestrians but when they are wet it is even worse than the bitumen.
